Fair Trials International submission on EU Criminal Procedure
On December 9 Fair Trials International submitted its written evidence to the Justice and Institutions Sub-Committee of the House of Lords European Select Committee. The select committee set up the inquiry at the start of November to determine whether an EU system of criminal procedural law is desirable, and what effects the proposed developments are likely to have on British citizens.
Our work comments on the breadth of EU criminal procedure, including but not limited to: extradition and the European Arrest Warrant; procedural defence rights; cross-border evidence gathering; pre-trial detention in the EU; and prisoner transfers within the EU.
