Criminal Justice Centre: The Future For UK Extradition

Fair Trials International Chief Executive Jago Russell and Trustee Anand Doobay took part in a debate on November 23 on the UK extradition system. The conference was hosted by law firm Peters & Peters and the Criminal Justice Centre at Queen Mary, University of London, and was chaired by Professor Peter Alldridge, Queen Mary, University of London and Michael O'Kane, Head of Business Crime at Peters & Peters.

In addition to Jago Russell and Anand Doobay, the panel featured the Right Honourable Sir Scott Baker (who presided over the recent review on the UK's extradition arrangements), US Embassy Department for Justice Attaché, David Perry QC, Joint Head of Chambers at 6 King’s Bench Walk, and Professor Valsamis Mitsilegas, Professor of European Criminal Law and Director of the Criminal Justice Centre at Queen Mary, University of London. The debate discussed many tenets of UK extradition, including the US-UK Extradition Treaty, the European Arrest Warrant, and the requirement to provide prima facie evidence.
