FOOTBALL FAN GARRY MANN WINS EXTRADITION DELAY

An injunction has been issued by the High Court so it can look again at the case of the England football fan from Kent facing extradition to Portugal.

Garry Mann, 52, of Faversham, was convicted for his role in a riot in Albufeira during Euro 2004. He had his appeal against extradition to Portugal rejected by the European Court of Human Rights on Tuesday.

Earlier an extradition date was set for 5 May. The injunction means he will not be sent back until at least 7 May.

Jago Russell, from Fair Trials International, said: "The High Court has just issued a further injunction to give it time to consider Garry Mann's case again.

"This means he could not be extradited until next Friday. It is a great development and really bodes well."

"We hope that this means the High Court will now seriously consider stopping this unfair extradition."

Fair Trials International has described Mann's trial in Portugal as "grossly unfair" after he was arrested, tried and convicted in the space of 48 hours.
