ENGLAND FOOTBALL FAN GARRY MANN’S EXTRADITION DATE SET

BBC NEWS

An England football fan convicted for his role in a riot in Portugal during Euro 2004 is to be extradited later to serve a two-year sentence.

Former Kent firefighter Garry Mann, 52, will be flown from Heathrow to Lisbon and will then be transferred to an undisclosed prison.

Mann claims he never received a fair trial over the riot in Albufeira. He said he had been caught up in extradition laws meant for terrorists and warned others would follow him.

Jago Russell of Fair Trials International, the group that has campaigned on his behalf, said: "Garry Mann's trial in Portugal was a travesty of justice.

"The UK's decision to extradite him is an outrage."

Mann was arrested, tried and convicted within 48 hours.
