CLEGG’S HELP FOR STUDENT FACING TRIAL IN GREECE FOR MANSLAUGHTER

The family of an Enfield student awaiting trial in Greece over manslaughter charges have met with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Andrew Symeou, 22, is accused of killing Welsh teenager Jonathan Hiles, 18, while on holiday in the Greek island of Zante in 2007. He has consistently denied the charge saying friends were tortured by police into implicating him in the crime.

It gave Mr Symeou’s father, Frank, and sister, Sophie, the chance to put their case directly to Mr Clegg and some other key government figures.

They were joined by Baroness Sarah Ludford MEP and Jago Russell from Fair Trials International.
