FAIR TRIALS INTERNATIONAL EXPRESSES DELIGHT AT INTERPOL DENIAL OF ROLE IN HAMZA KASHGARI ARREST

February 13 2012

Interpol has today confirmed that it has not been involved in the case involving a Saudi blogger arrested in Malaysia and deported to Saudi Arabia.

Fair Trials International’s Chief Executive, Jago Russell, said:

We are delighted that today Interpol has publicly denied any involvement in the arrest of Hamza Kashgari, despite Malaysian sources making statements to the contrary last week. As Fair Trials International pointed out, this would have been contrary to Interpol’s own constitution, which prohibits any involvement in cases of a political or religious nature.”
