FTI’S Submission on interpretation and translation to the House of Lords European Scrutiny Committee
Fair Trials International's submission to the European Scrutiny Committee of the House of Lords examines the proposal presented by the European Commission on 8 July 2009 for a Framework Decision on the right to interpretation and translation of relevant documents in criminal proceedings (the “Proposal”).
The submission welcomes the measures proposed, in principle, whilst outlining concerns regarding their scope.
A submission in similar terms was sent to the corresponding House of Commons Scrutiny Committee and copied to the Justice Select Committee.
