Jago Russell

Chief Executive

Jago has been the Chief Executive of Fair Trials International since September 2008. Before joining Fair Trials, he worked as a policy specialist at the human rights charity (Liberty) and worked as a Legal Specialist in the UK Parliament, assisting the Human Rights, Home Affairs and Constitutional Affairs Select Committees. Jago is a qualified solicitor and has published and lectured widely on a range of criminal justice and human rights issues.

Catherine Heard

Head of Policy

As Head of Policy, Catherine’s main focus is EU criminal justice policy. She is responsible for FTI’s campaigning, lobbying, and networking activities. Before joining FTI in 2008, Catherine worked as a solicitor in international commercial litigation. She obtained an LLM in Human Rights Law at Birkbeck College, London in 2009.

Robert Jackman

Fundraiser

Robert generates the support needed for Fair Trials International to perform its charitable work. Before joining FTI, Robert worked for BBC Voices, a community-led broadcasting project, and for Beat, the UK’s leading eating disorders charity.

Mike Kostyn

Finance Manager

Mike qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young in 1996 and has been coordinating and managing FTI’s financial operations and development since April 2009. He is also the Head of Finance at the Elton John AIDS Foundation and a trustee of the Nicholas James Marple Charitable Trust. He previously worked as a Finance Director for a number of NGOs including MERLIN and Child Poverty Action Group in the UK and acted as an emergencies manager for Oxfam GB around the world.

Bruno Min

Manager of Direct Assistance

As Manager of Direct Assistance Bruno overviews the provision of assistance (including legal information and referrals) to people facing criminal charges in a country other than their own and to their relatives. Bruno analyses the trends and issues faced by FTI’s beneficiaries and uses this information to inform the work of FTI’s strategic casework, policy and communication teams. Bruno studied Law at the University of Cambridge after which he gained experience in organisations campaigning for the rights of foreign nationals such as the UNHCR and BID and worked as an advocate at a leading London law firm specialising in Human Rights and Asylum before joining FTI.

Rosalyn Salmon

Office Manager

As Office Manager, Rosalyn works alongside all members of staff, enabling the charity to run its operations effectively. Rosalyn also provides administration and finance support. Before joining Fair Trials International, Rosalyn worked for a Consulting Engineering Firm where she developed her managerial skills. Rosalyn has recently gained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Business.

Rebecca Shaeffer

Strategic Caseworker

As Strategic Caseworker, Rebecca works to implement FTI’s reform and policy goals by intervening in key cases in both national and supranational legal venues, and by documenting individual cases of injustice. Rebecca has a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University in Washington, DC and has worked in a variety of capacities for the rights of non-citizens and criminal defendants in many countries including the USA, Ecuador, Guatemala, South Africa, Zambia, and Egypt. Most recently before joining FTI, she worked as a defence investigator on a federal capital case in the USA, and as a research fellow at Human Rights Watch.

Emily Smith

Policy Officer

As Policy Officer, Emily assists with Fair Trials International’s campaigning, lobbying and law reform work. Before joining FTI, Emily worked as a solicitor in an international law firm and at the human rights organisation JUSTICE. Emily obtained an LLM in Human Rights Law at SOAS, University of London in 2011.

Allan Williams

Media Officer

As Media Officer, Allan is responsible for developing and maintaining the media presence for Fair Trials International, and publicising our campaigns. Before joining FTI, Allan worked as Editor of ForesightNews, a forward-planning press diary. Allan graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2005 and holds a Masters in Diplomacy.
